Hroad trips

In defiance of local conventions, I leave town on football Saturdays. Our old escape route took us out to Tecumseh to the now departed Chocolate Vault. This year we went to Blissfield, Mason, Napoleon, Clinton, Eaton Rapids, Fenton, South Bend and Traverse City to avoid the madness. A few notables that would bear a repeat visit next fall:

• The Napoleon Cafe in Napoleon, MI. Come hungry and check out the specials board.
• Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton, MI.
  
• The Middleton Diner in Middleton, MI. Great fried chicken.
• Turtle Tom's Ice Cream in Mason, MI.
• The Lux Cafe in Goshen, IN. Another spot to come hungry.
  
• The Sunrise Cafe and Barnaby's pizza in South Bend, IN
• US-20 between Angola and Elkhart, IN was a great drive during the fall harvest
  
• The Cook's House, Patisserie Ami, and Ciao Bella in Traverse City
• The Parshallville Cider Mill in Parshallville, MI
