My (belated) Top Movies of 2007
Note: This is my list. It probably doesn't match anyone elses. That's more or less by design. Ann Arbor gets flicks that don't hit other markets, but frequently gets Oscar contenders after the awards go out. 2007 was a great year for movies. Some of the choices this year (Shortbus, SuperBad, Our Daily Bread, etc.) are edgy or offbeat. My advice is to pay attention to ratings and descriptions.
- Bridge to Terabithia
- Children of Men
- Flushed Away
- Helvetica -- a movie on typography that holds up to multiple viewings
- The Host (2006 Korea)
- Juno
- The Lives of Others
- Our Daily Bread
- Pan's Labyrinth
- Ratatouille
- 300
- Enchanted -- Amy Adams is a wonder
- Lady Chatterly
- I am Legend -- the film makers must have read "A World Without Us"
- In the Shadow of the Moon
- Nightwatch -- a Russian take on the vampire film, ending drags
- No End in Sight
- Once
- Shooter -- 3rd act is predictable, 2nd act's a good argument for buying some QuickClot
- Sicko
- SuperBad
Missed at the Theaters but Caught on DVD
- Brick (2005) -- hardboiled detective story meets The Breakfast Club
- Dog Soldiers (2002) -- derivative of everything but great ensemble acting
- F*ck
- Flannel Pajamas
- Train Man, Densha Otako (2005 Japan)
- The Chances of the World Changing
- Head-On
- I Like Killing Flies -- for fans of eccentrics and short order cooks
- Shortbus (2006) -- award winning, polarizing, unrated and not for the faint of heart
- The Hidden Blade (2004 Japan) -- from the same director that did Twilight Samurai
- Man Push Cart (2005)
- My Best Friend
- The Namesake (2006)
- Shut Up and Sing (2006)
- Stranger than Fiction (2006)
